Agent sandboxes / Baponi alternative

A Baponi sandbox alternative for an evolving agent computer

Baponi’s Deep Agents backend retains files, installed packages, and environment changes across calls. Its rate card prices executions in credits, with per-call limits. Compare that execution unit and retention scope with a long-lived Linux RootFS that grows automatically.

When Baponi fits

Baponi fits teams that want a ready Deep Agents backend, managed per-user sandbox lookup, file and code tools, MCP/REST access, and credit-based short execution. Custom OCI images and own-bucket storage can support existing workflows.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 when the application needs a continuously reusable Linux environment, process and service control, automatic whole-RootFS growth, and supported file operations during compute pauses. Your agent framework remains a separate integration choice.

Baponi and Sandbox0: what persists?

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

Baponi documents cross-call state, managed storage, and bucket mounts. Its reviewed integration and rate card do not establish automatic online growth of the entire mounted writable RootFS.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

An execution timeout is not the lifetime of retained session files

Baponi’s backend can get or create a sandbox by ID, retaining installed packages and changes across calls. Free allows short individual executions and Pro allows longer ones. Those are per-execution limits, so do not describe them as proof that all retained agent state disappears after each call.

Credit examples matter more than an invented resource formula

The price page defines a base credit as up to 60 seconds at 1 CPU and 1 GiB. It rounds a 90-second base run to two credits and also prices a 60-second 2 CPU/2 GiB run as two credits. Use the published examples and effective resource tier rather than multiplying CPU and RAM counts together.

Managed storage and your own bucket have different bills

Baponi lists included managed storage plus overage, while own-bucket mounts do not count against that allowance. The bucket owner still pays its cloud storage costs. Persistent backend state does not by itself establish that every root path is retained or that the running filesystem automatically expands.

Pricing

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

Sandbox0

$0.015/GiB-hour compute (billed by the second at approximately $0.000004167/GiB-second), plus $0.02/GiB-month of retained incremental RootFS and memory checkpoint data. Shared base images and platform recovery retention are excluded; paused sandboxes accrue storage charges only.

Compute / GiB-hour

Retained data / GiB-month

A 4 GiB agent, 100 running hours

$6.00 compute

4 GiB × 100 hours, billed by the second. Keeping 20 GiB of billable incremental data for a full billing month adds $0.40. CPU is derived from memory by the platform; choose a tier that fits your workload.

Before migrating from Baponi

  1. Inventory sandbox session IDs, files, installed tools, custom images, managed storage, and bucket mounts before provider cleanup.
  2. Port the Deep Agents backend or execution adapter, tool calls, credentials, and storage paths, preserving per-user separation.
  3. Test multi-call tasks, background-service needs, system installs, RootFS growth, paused file operations, and effective execution-credit versus runtime costs.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in Baponi replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. A shared sandbox category does not make SDKs, lifecycle semantics, or limits interchangeable.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
