Data and AI platforms / Strong Compute FinOps and ISC alternative

A Strong Compute FinOps alternative for the execution layer

Strong Compute currently leads with visibility into GPU-cloud and LLM spending. Its documentation also retains an ISC training/workstation product with automatically saved container files. The annual visibility subscription and the usage-based compute product are separate offers, and neither price should be substituted for the other.

When Strong Compute FinOps and ISC fits

Strong Compute fits teams tracking AI spend across cloud and inference vendors, attributing costs and controlling budgets. Existing ISC customers should also preserve its documented saved-container capabilities when evaluating a runtime move.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 for compatible Linux agent execution with a whole durable writable RootFS, automatic online growth and supported files while guest compute stays paused. Cost aggregation and provider-management functions remain separate product needs.

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

ISC documents a 50 GB container limit and larger Datasets; the FinOps dashboard does not change that into automatic whole-RootFS growth. Sandbox0’s enabled online expansion applies to its durable writable RootFS independently of spend visibility.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

ISC stores offline container data in cloud storage, while its file-editing path is SSH into a running interactive container. That does not establish a direct stopped-container full-filesystem API. Sandbox0 supports paused RootFS files under its filesystem-only mutation and retained-memory read rules.

The current annual plan buys spend visibility

The homepage lists $10,000 USD per year for tracking up to $1 million in annual AI spend, with higher-scale Enterprise terms by quote. The three-month trial requires application and approval. Registering for a demo is not the same as receiving live paid-feature access or a compute allowance.

ISC already preserves installed dependencies across container stops

The ISC guide says stopped containers commit their changed image layers and upload data to cloud storage, then download it when started. It explicitly preserves installed dependencies and container files, rather than only a source repository. Containers have a 50 GB limit and larger payloads should use Datasets; accumulated layers can require squashing.

Container disk continuation is different from training checkpoints and billing

ISC charges running-container time and cloud storage, with separate transfer and experiment meters. Its stopped-container description establishes disk/image retention, not arbitrary running-process RAM continuation. Training nodes mount committed project files read-only, a different mode from an interactive workstation.

Pricing

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

Before migrating from Strong Compute FinOps and ISC

  1. Separate FinOps vendor integrations and spend plans from ISC containers, images, datasets, experiments and retained storage.
  2. Keep required cost visibility and GPU training services; export compatible agent filesystem state and installed tool requirements.
  3. Test complete-system retention, online growth and paused files separately from spend reporting and product-specific resource fees.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in Strong Compute FinOps and ISC replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. These products serve different core workflows, so a change may require a different architecture.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
