OneCLI alternative

OneCLI combines sandboxed agents, a durable workspace volume and a gateway for granted credentials, policy and approvals. Its platform-kept agent memory survives between turns. Compare those application features and retained workspace with the full Linux installation your agent may need to preserve.

When OneCLI fits

OneCLI fits teams that want durable agent identities, schedules, business integrations and policy-controlled access, with cloud or self-operated control-plane choices. Its gateway can also work with external agents already running elsewhere.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 when persistence must include the whole writable RootFS, such as system tools and configuration outside the workspace, with online growth and supported paused-file access. Retain or implement the gateway, approvals, agent harness and model layer separately; check runner/Docker requirements rather than assuming a drop-in integration.

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

OneCLI explicitly preserves a durable workspace through park/wake and keeps learned agent memory. The reviewed docs do not establish automatic growth of a complete Linux RootFS or retention of installed system changes outside that workspace. Sandbox0 includes those system paths in its persistent RootFS.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

Editing platform-kept agent memory or granting connections is not the same as modifying files in a paused full Linux RootFS. The reviewed OneCLI material does not establish that complete filesystem interface.

Workspace retention is explicitly supported

The architecture guide says a sandbox has a durable workspace volume that survives park and wake. The runner wakes work for a message or schedule and parks idle sandboxes; learned memory is kept by the platform. Those are useful retention features. The reviewed docs do not establish the same contract for every system path outside that volume or for arbitrary process RAM.

Policy and human approvals belong to the agent application

OneCLI describes routing sandbox HTTP requests through a gateway that evaluates policy and injects granted credentials. Matching actions can pause for approval, with expiry denying the action. A Linux runtime’s isolation and network controls do not automatically reproduce the application’s identity, integration and approval flows.

Own-model-key and self-hosted editions are different choices

On the price page, BYOC means bringing an Anthropic or OpenAI key, not bringing a cloud account. That lowers Team and Scale fees but leaves provider usage on your account. Separately, the docs offer free Community self-hosting and a commercial Enterprise edition with additional integrations and policy features; do not apply the enterprise-only pricing FAQ to all self-hosted software.

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

The hosted-model Scale price is $1,999/month, distinct from the $499 own-key selection. Agents are identities counted across projects, not a published CPU/RAM allocation. The pricing page’s Free allowance is 500 monthly calls while another FAQ says all plans have no call quotas; do not assume unlimited Free calls. $0.015/GiB-hour compute (billed by the second at approximately $0.000004167/GiB-second), plus $0.02/GiB-month of retained incremental RootFS and memory checkpoint data. Shared base images and platform recovery retention are excluded; paused sandboxes accrue storage charges only.

$6.00 compute

4 GiB × 100 hours, billed by the second. Keeping 20 GiB of billable incremental data for a full billing month adds $0.40. CPU is derived from memory by the platform; choose a tier that fits your workload.

Before migrating from OneCLI

  1. Inventory agent identities, workspace contents, system-level changes, gateway/approval rules and hosted-model versus own-key billing.
  2. Retain or port the application layer while moving compatible agent tools to Sandbox0; qualify runner dependencies and credential/network integrations explicitly.
  3. Test workspace and system-path retention, park/restart behavior, online RootFS growth, paused files and full seats/models/infrastructure costs.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in OneCLI replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. These products serve different core workflows, so a change may require a different architecture.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
