Inference APIs / Pipeshift Inference Platform alternative

A Pipeshift alternative for the agent surrounding model inference

Pipeshift currently manages dedicated inference deployments with model runtimes, GPU scheduling and service-level tuning across infrastructure providers. Its model APIs are a different execution surface from the Linux agent that installs tools and orchestrates those endpoints. Evaluate the inference service and the agent computer separately.

When Pipeshift Inference Platform fits

Pipeshift fits teams operating custom or open-model inference endpoints with dedicated deployments, autoscaling, observability and engineering support. Model latency, concurrency and deployment SLAs are central selection criteria.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 for compatible Linux agents that prepare inputs, install dependencies, retain their whole writable system and orchestrate inference services between tasks. Keep model serving and accelerator requirements on suitable infrastructure.

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

Pipeshift scales model-serving capacity and tunes inference deployments. That is different from automatically growing a per-user agent’s complete durable writable RootFS; verify artifact storage separately.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

Inference endpoints are the current public API scope

The public API schema exposes chat completion, transcription, embeddings, reranking and model health operations. The site also uses Sandbox in a model-API context; that label alone does not establish an arbitrary Linux command runtime with a persistent whole RootFS.

Scale-to-zero is a model deployment lifecycle

Pipeshift advertises workload-aware scaling, dedicated deployments, observability and optimized model runtimes. Scaling an inference worker down does not by itself establish durable agent RAM or preservation of every OS change. Confirm model artifact storage, warm capacity and restart semantics for the actual deployment.

A configured service agreement is needed for pricing

Current public materials lead to a sales or engineering conversation rather than a numeric GPU or platform rate card. Request hardware, model/runtime, replicas, warm capacity, traffic and support terms together. Published cluster and model SLA figures vary in scope and should be replaced by the effective agreement.

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

$6.00 compute

4 GiB × 100 hours, billed by the second. Keeping 20 GiB of billable incremental data for a full billing month adds $0.40. CPU is derived from memory by the platform; choose a tier that fits your workload.

Before migrating from Pipeshift Inference Platform

  1. Inventory model endpoints, fine-tuned artifacts, GPU runtimes, traffic patterns, cloud accounts, autoscaling and SLA terms.
  2. Retain or replace the required inference service and port compatible Linux agent orchestration with credentials and verified files.
  3. Benchmark model quality and endpoint behavior separately from agent system retention, RootFS growth, paused-file operations and combined service costs.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in Pipeshift Inference Platform replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. These products serve different core workflows, so a change may require a different architecture.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
