Agent testing / Playgent alternative

Playgent alternative

The Playgent at useplaygent.com currently provides reinforcement-learning environments for finance. It sells expert-curated tasks, verifiers and infrastructure for post-training. It is distinct from the similarly named gaming product and from a general-purpose production agent sandbox.

When Playgent fits

Playgent fits model builders seeking challenging financial workflows, verification rubrics and environment data for training or evaluation. Keep that specialized task and reward layer if improving financial agent capability is the objective.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 when you need the Linux execution environment for your own agent or compatible evaluation code, with retained tools and growing files. You must separately supply or license financial tasks, data, verifiers and any training infrastructure.

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

Playgent’s task, verifier and training-environment offer does not establish automatic online growth of a full Linux RootFS. Sandbox0 retains the execution host’s system tools and accumulating files; the domain data and rewards remain separate.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

The reviewed Playgent offer does not establish a Files API for reading or editing an entire paused Linux RootFS. Dataset access and training artifacts should be covered by their own delivery/storage terms.

The task and reward design are core product value

Playgent describes finance experts curating tasks, verification rubrics and realistic environments. Its examples involve financial analysis across documents and structured workflows. Compute alone does not provide those problems, ground truth or grading logic.

An RL environment is a controlled learning system

The homepage defines a loop of agent actions, observations and rewards, and says its data is delivered as production-ready RL environments for post-training. That refers to training integration, not a promise of a persistent customer Linux desktop for arbitrary production work.

Current access is arranged around a use case

The FAQ directs customers to discuss their needs and integrate the data into a training pipeline. The reviewed page does not establish a self-service sandbox API, generic CPU/RAM tariff or automatic disk-growth contract. Preserve the actual data and deployment agreement when comparing alternatives.

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

Sandbox0

$0.015/GiB-hour compute (billed by the second at approximately $0.000004167/GiB-second), plus $0.02/GiB-month of retained incremental RootFS and memory checkpoint data. Shared base images and platform recovery retention are excluded; paused sandboxes accrue storage charges only.

A 4 GiB agent, 100 running hours

$6.00 compute

4 GiB × 100 hours, billed by the second. Keeping 20 GiB of billable incremental data for a full billing month adds $0.40. CPU is derived from memory by the platform; choose a tier that fits your workload.

Before migrating from Playgent

  1. Identify required financial tasks, data rights, verifiers, reward definitions and the actual commercial delivery terms.
  2. Run compatible licensed task/agent code on Sandbox0 where appropriate, keeping training orchestration and any specialized infrastructure explicitly configured.
  3. Validate grading fidelity, environment resets, retained dependencies, RootFS growth, paused files and complete data/training/runtime costs.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in Playgent replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. These products serve different core workflows, so a change may require a different architecture.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
