macOS compute / HostMyApple Mac VPS / Dedicated alternative

HostMyApple alternative for portable persistent agents

HostMyApple offers Mac VPS and dedicated Mac plans with remote desktop, SSH and administrator access. Its included system disks already retain installed macOS state. A Linux runtime can take compatible agent stages, while Mac applications and native Apple development stay on suitable hardware.

When HostMyApple Mac VPS / Dedicated fits

Choose HostMyApple for a hosted Mac desktop, root access to a Mac VPS or dedicated Mac hardware. Select the required CPU architecture, memory, storage and application compatibility rather than treating VPS and physical plans as the same resource.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 for portable Linux agents that should keep their complete writable RootFS, grow automatically online and expose supported files during compute pauses. Retain Mac GUI applications, Xcode and native signing stages separately.

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

HostMyApple already provides retained installed-system SSD state. The cited plan sizes and administrator access do not establish automatic low-space-triggered whole-RootFS growth; verify any host upgrade or disk-expansion procedure separately.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

SSH and remote desktop require an accessible running Mac environment. The cited plans do not specify a native arbitrary file API for a stopped Mac filesystem with guest compute remaining off.

The VPS already includes system access and disk

The Mac VPS page includes SSH, remote desktop, full administrator access and SSD capacity for each package. That is broader than a repository-only development workspace. The disk size is still a plan allocation, and the page does not specify an integrated automatic whole-RootFS growth policy.

VPS and dedicated hardware are different comparisons

A low-memory VPS is not the same product as a full dedicated Intel or Apple Silicon Mac. The dedicated page has its own CPU, RAM, SSD and promotional prices. Keep required macOS software compatibility and resource isolation in the choice rather than inferring identical throughput from price.

Monthly plans need a retained-capacity budget

The public offers are monthly subscriptions with stated disk/network inclusions. The product pages do not establish a per-second compute-release tariff or arbitrary memory checkpoint feature. Confirm upgrade, backup, cancellation and any fair-use terms for the exact order.

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

$0.015/GiB-hour compute (billed by the second at approximately $0.000004167/GiB-second), plus $0.02/GiB-month of retained incremental RootFS and memory checkpoint data. Shared base images and platform recovery retention are excluded; paused sandboxes accrue storage charges only.

$6.00 compute

4 GiB × 100 hours, billed by the second. Keeping 20 GiB of billable incremental data for a full billing month adds $0.40. CPU is derived from memory by the platform; choose a tier that fits your workload.

Before migrating from HostMyApple Mac VPS / Dedicated

  1. Inventory VPS versus physical plan, architecture, installed apps/configuration, disk usage, remote-access dependencies and subscription terms.
  2. Export required portable files and rebuild compatible Linux agent stages; keep Mac-native GUI, build and signing requirements on suitable Macs.
  3. Test cross-stage files, installed tools, online growth, paused access and combined Mac subscriptions plus Linux runtime/storage costs.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in HostMyApple Mac VPS / Dedicated replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. These products serve different core workflows, so a change may require a different architecture.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
