macOS compute / RentaMac (rentamac.io) alternative

RentaMac alternative for portable agent stages

RentaMac at rentamac.io rents dedicated Macs with root, SSH and remote desktop access. Its current public portal, FAQ and Mac hosting page list M4 monthly rental at $119. Use the exact region, period and current order quote, and keep native Mac requirements separate from portable Linux agent work.

When RentaMac (rentamac.io) fits

Choose RentaMac for a retained physical Mac, native Apple tooling or a remote Mac desktop. Check the required region, available hardware and management policy before relying on a particular configuration.

When to consider Sandbox0

Consider Sandbox0 for compatible Linux agent stages needing their whole writable RootFS retained, automatic online growth and supported file access while guest compute is paused. Keep Xcode, native Apple signing and Mac applications on suitable hardware.

Online RootFS growth

On growth-enabled images, Sandbox0 automatically expands the writable RootFS as free space runs low, within a configured sparse logical ceiling up to 64 TiB. Agent processes keep running. Growth is enabled in the qualified Cloud region; confirm activation for other regions. Existing images and snapshots retain their captured storage geometry. The ceiling is logical capacity, not preallocated host disk.

A dedicated Mac already retains its complete installed system. The published local SSD and optional external-storage choices do not establish automatic low-space online growth of that whole filesystem.

Files while compute is paused

Sandbox0's Files API reads persistent files without resuming compute. Filesystem-only pauses also permit edits; retained-memory pauses are read-only and reject mutations with 409. SSH, SFTP, file watching, and runtime-only mounts require running compute.

SSH and desktop access use the running Mac. The cited service does not establish native arbitrary OS-file operations with the machine remaining paused; dedicated hardware persistence alone is a different guarantee.

Use the current period and region quote

The current public portal, FAQ and Mac hosting page list M4 monthly rental at $119; the FAQ also lists $19 daily. Longer prepaid periods have different discounts. Confirm the selected region, rental period and inventory rather than treating a monthly daily-equivalent amount as unrestricted daily or hourly rental.

Root access coexists with provider device management

The service offers a dedicated physical Mac and root access. Its FAQ also says devices remain enrolled in RentaMac’s MDM, so customers cannot enroll them in their own MDM simultaneously. That matters for corporate device-management requirements even when application installation is allowed.

The billing period is an allocation commitment

The portal offers daily, weekly, monthly and longer periods with automatic renewal. A monthly daily-equivalent price is not an hourly compute meter. Region inventory differs, and adding external storage is not automatic growth of the existing system SSD.

Pricing

Compare billing models, then price your workload

CPU allocation, memory, billing minimums, disk, plan fees, and supported workload differ. These meters are not equal-performance machine quotes. Confirm region, resource units, and included allowances before estimating a total.

$0.015/GiB-hour compute (billed by the second at approximately $0.000004167/GiB-second), plus $0.02/GiB-month of retained incremental RootFS and memory checkpoint data. Shared base images and platform recovery retention are excluded; paused sandboxes accrue storage charges only.

Before migrating from RentaMac (rentamac.io)

  1. Verify rentamac.io product/region, current order price, stock, rental period, MDM constraints and required installed-system data.
  2. Export portable repository/agent files and rebuild Linux-compatible tools while keeping native Apple tasks on suitable Macs.
  3. Test artifact handoff, system retention, online growth, paused files and combined rental/add-on plus Linux runtime costs.

Common questions

Is Sandbox0 a drop-in RentaMac (rentamac.io) replacement?

Evaluate API compatibility and product scope. These products serve different core workflows, so a change may require a different architecture.

Does keeping files also keep a running agent?

Filesystem state and volatile process state are separate. Sandbox0 requires explicit compatible memory checkpoints to preserve running processes; its default filesystem resume starts fresh processes.
